WWC Hunter’s Retreat 2010:  September 17th & 18th at the Wesleyan Woods Campground in Vassar, MI.  The cost per person is $55 for a dorm room or $40 for a RV/tent site.  There will be two 10 Target 3D courses, an archery coon shoot, a skeet shoot, muzzle loading range, 3 meals, an auction, and door prizes.  There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the hallway.

Women’s Movie Night:  Friday, September 24th at 7pm at the Community Cafe.  The night will consist of fellowship, a potluck dinner & a movie.  Bring a friend and a dish to share.

Serving Opportunities

District Haiti Trips:  September 25 - Oct 3 and Oct 2 - Oct 10, our Wesleyan District will be doing trips with Global Partners to rebuild the Curtis Wesleyan Church in Haiti and install water filtration systems.  The cost for these trips will be around $1000.  The sign up deadline is September 8th.  If you are interested in going on either trip, please contact Linda as soon as possible at 586-713-6326.

Back to School Time:  We will be collecting backpack & school supplies for area children through Labor Day.  Collection boxes are located at the Community Cafe & at the school during our Sunday morning gatherings. 

Community Cafe

Volunteer Meeting:  If yo are currently volunteering or interested in volunteering at the Cafe in the future, we are having a meeting by the s5tage in the auditorium directly following our services today.  Please attend this meeting if you are or want to be a volunteer. 

*** The jist is this:  If we do not have real commitment for 2 people in the dining room and 2 people in the kitchen Monday thru Friday we will have to close the Cafe.  If we change the hours to 10am to 4pm will that change your volunteering ability.  Please contact Janine at 586-817-2556 if you are interested & did not attend this meeting, or if you think you can help at some point in the future or if the hours are changed it will make all the difference in your ability to help.

Feeding the Homeless

The Well(Gratiot, north of Hall Road):  Monday, August 30th we are serving those in need within our own community.  Come anytime between 3-8pm to help cook & serve.

My Brother’s Keeper:  Tuesday, September 7th:  We will be serving the homeless in downtown Detroit.  Meet us at the Community Cafe by 5:30 pm.

Connections ~ Life is better Together

Celebrate Recovery:  The group is open to anyone looking for support and freedom from hurts, hang-ups and habits.  We meet Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm at the Community Cafe.  Contact Deb for more details at 586-747-5054.

Weekly bible Study:  Wednesday nights at 7pm at the Community Cafe.

Praise Team Practice:  Thursday nights at 7:30 pm at the Community Cafe.  If you are interested in joining the band or singing, please see Bill.

Hope this finds you all well & chasing after Jesus!

Well - Haiti is still all blown up; hot, dirty & in need of lots of love.  I was not able to go down to the Keeper tonight & really missed that time.  My body is just not really running as normal; these blitz trips take their toll!  My body is beat up but my spirit is alive!

Doing these trips with Mitch has been interesting.  This time we had a television crew so that means you can all see what we were doing by watching Fox 2 News at 10pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Amy Shore will be doing a three part series on Haiti and the crew.  And… if that isn’t enough we will be doing a live broadcast at 7:45 am on Saturday on Fox.  And Yes, I will try to bring the whole crew to the BBQ cook off in Our Town!!

North Shore Happenings

New Baltimore First Annual Smoke on the Bay Rib Cook-Off:  Saturday, August 7th from 9am to 9pm in downtown New Baltimore,  NorthShore will be helping out the New Baltimore Lions with this rib competition.  We are in need of a few volunteers to help serve.   Registration for the contestants begins at 9am so if you plan to help we need people there to help set up about 8am.   We will also need help tearing down at 9pm.  Please find Greg Nikkel there at 8am for details on what help is needed. Bay-Rama Parade:  Directly following our service today, Sunday June 27th we will be selling hot dogs, cotton candy and popcor during the Bay-Rama Fish-fly Parade.  We will be located directly in front of the New Baltimore Fire House. (more…)

We opened the Community Cafe on Friday the 25th.  It was fun!

It was supposed to be a soft or quiet opening but we packed the house.  We were a bit overwhelmed for a good 2 hours but considering that most of the volunteers have never done something this extensive, it was great!

THANK YOU! to Bobbie, Melissa, Amber, Stanley, Dody, Tina, Mike, Greg, Sherry, Debbie, Lisa, Barb,  Aileen, Linda, Chris & Jan for all your very hard work this week! 

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE  who has put a hand, a prayer, a thought into the opening of this place from 2 years ago until now.

We are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 2pm. 

We still need volunteers!  If you signed up to volunteer but have not yet come or don’t think we need you or don’t have time now but may in the future, please contact Janine.  Those people who are giving their time are there 5 days a week and we will get burned out soon.  If you can lend a hand at all for ANY amount of time, please contact Janine at fivenikkels@yahoo.com.  I will work you into the schedule.  We are in need of help for next week already!   Please come get trained so even if you can only help once a week or once a month, we can use you as back up.
