New Baltimore First Annual Smoke on the Bay Rib Cook-Off:  August 7th from 9am to 9pm in downtown New Baltimore.  North Shore will be helping out the new Baltimore Lions with this rib competition.  We are in need of a few volunteers to help serve.  There is a sign up sheet located in the hallway. 

Serving Opportunities

Community Cafe Volunteers:  We are still in need of volunteers to work at the cafe from 7:45 am to 2:30 pm.  This can be split into 7:45 - 11am & 11am - 2:30 pm shifts.  Even if you are only able to help 1/2 day, one day a week, WE NEED YOUR HELP.  This can’t work without your help.  Tips are split amongst volunteers at the end of each day.  Please contact Janine at 586-817-2556 for information.

New Haven Food Giveaway:  August 10th and September 10th from 10am - 12pm at the New Haven Fire Department.

Feeding the Homeless

My Brother’s Keeper:  Tuesday, August 3rd we will be serving the homeless in downtown Detroit.  Meet us at the Community Cafe by 5:30 pm.

The Well(on Gratiot, north of Hall Road):   Thursday, August 19th we are serving those in need within our own community.  Come anytime between 3-8pm to help cook and serve.

Connections ~ Life is Better Together

Celebrate Recovery:  The group is open to anyone looking for support and freedom from hurts, hang-ups and habits.  We meet Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm at the Community Cafe.  Contact Deb for more details at 586-747-5054.

Weekly Bible Study:  Wednesday nights at 7pm at the Community Cafe.

We opened the Community Cafe on Friday the 25th.  It was fun!

It was supposed to be a soft or quiet opening but we packed the house.  We were a bit overwhelmed for a good 2 hours but considering that most of the volunteers have never done something this extensive, it was great!

THANK YOU! to Bobbie, Melissa, Amber, Stanley, Dody, Tina, Mike, Greg, Sherry, Debbie, Lisa, Barb,  Aileen, Linda, Chris & Jan for all your very hard work this week! 

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE  who has put a hand, a prayer, a thought into the opening of this place from 2 years ago until now.

We are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 2pm. 

We still need volunteers!  If you signed up to volunteer but have not yet come or don’t think we need you or don’t have time now but may in the future, please contact Janine.  Those people who are giving their time are there 5 days a week and we will get burned out soon.  If you can lend a hand at all for ANY amount of time, please contact Janine at fivenikkels@yahoo.com.  I will work you into the schedule.  We are in need of help for next week already!   Please come get trained so even if you can only help once a week or once a month, we can use you as back up.

We are looking for a volunteer to man (or wo-man) the coffee counter on Wednesdays between 6:30 and 7:30 before Bible Study.  This person would be trained to make & take money for the specialty coffee drinks that we sell in the Cafe.

Community Cafe Volunteers:  Starting tomorrow (6/21/10) at 8 AM we will begin training.  We will be working on making specialty coffee drinks, food per our recipes, cleaning and organizing.  We will also begin to pass out menus to the immediate vicinity business to let them know we will be opening for business either on Wednesday or Thursday depending on how the training goes on Monday & Tuesday.
